A.V.A.S. is situated in the San Luis Valley. The weather is quite unique. You can expect snow, rain, strong winds, blowing sand, and dusty conditions all in one afternoon! Please be prepared to work outside with some of the animals.

The animals here at the sanctuary come form various backgrounds, some better than others. As we work toward getting the animals at A.V.A.S. reacquainted with compassion & stability, some of them may not be able to accept love yet, so we ask that you check with a Guardian before you enter a pen or pet a furry friend.

As we reacquaint the ever-changing animal population here, the tasks around the sanctuary can grow and change without notice. We take pride in the care of our animals and their homes which is why there is always something to clean. (Anything from mucking to scrubbing water dispensers and so much more.)
